Introduction
The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) is pleased to announce the “PMDA-ATC Quality Control (Herbal Medicine) Seminar 2023" for officials from overseas regulatory authorities who are engaged in the review and quality management of pharmaceuticals. This seminar will be held IN-PERSON at Toyama prefecture from August 22-24, 2023.
The Seminar will cover topics relating to regulations and quality management of herbal medicines through lectures and site tours of medicinal plants center and a manufacturing site of herbal extract.
The webinar is not open to the industry or non-regulatory authorities. Participation from many regulatory authorities is welcomed.
Key Webinar Objectives
- To learn regulatory requirements and quality control for herbal medicine.
- To learn the basics of regulations for review of OTC herbal medicines.
- To obtain an opportunity to discuss how to enhance regulatory system for quality management of herbal medicines.
Who should apply
Regulators ONLY (Beginner to Intermediate level)
- Regulatory officials or relevant agencies/institutes employees with at least 3 years of experience in review and quality control related to herbal medicines.
- Participants need an ability to readily communicate in English because the training is provided in English. (with English-Japanese consecutive translation)

- If applications exceed the upper limit of 15, selection of the participants will take place at the discretion of PMDA. Participants will be selected from the person who have completed the PMDA-ATC Quality Control (Herbal Medicine) E-learning Course on a priority basis.

- Materials will be provided electronically. Participants are recommended to bring their own personal computer to access these materials when needed.
- There may be Covid 19-related border measures to visit Japan and return to your country. Please confirm the current measures at your end.
Fee
- There is no registration fee for this seminar.
- Information on travel and hotel reservation assistance will be provided to the approved participants.
- Travel health insurance is not covered by PMDA but PMDA strongly recommends participants consider obtaining it on your own.
