ASEAN-Japan Medical Devices Regulatory Symposium 2026 Report
The ASEAN-Japan Medical Devices Regulatory Symposium 2026 (hereinafter referred to as the “Symposium”) was held on June 30, 2026, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Symposium was jointly organized by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and Universitas Indonesia, with support from the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). Participants from medical device regulatory authorities, academia, industry, and other relevant sectors in ASEAN Member States attended the Symposium.
The Symposium opened with remarks by Mr. HIRAIWA Masaru, Executive Director of PMDA; Mr. CHUJO Kazuo, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan to ASEAN; Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Universitas Indonesia; and Dr. L. Rizka Andalusia, Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
Subsequently, three sessions were held under the themes of “International Regulatory Harmonization of Medical Devices,” “Updating Post-Market Safety for Medical Devices and IVDs,” and “Quality Management for Medical Devices.” Speakers from PMDA, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the Medical Device Authority, Malaysia (MDA), the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) delivered presentations. Each session featured a panel discussion among the speakers, followed by a question-and-answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of regulatory measures for post-market safety of medical devices.
The Symposium concluded with closing remarks by Prof. apt. Silvia Surini, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Indonesia.
