Recruitment Information for Native English Advisor

 The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) has focuses on enhancing active and smooth dissemination of information to the world by enriching and improving its English web content. To this end, PMDA is looking to recruit for a qualified native English advisor(s) who can proofread and edit English documents, produced by PMDA, so as to make them read naturally. The documents include translated review reports for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and regenerative medical products that will be uploaded to the PMDA website. The successful applicant(s) will work on site at PMDA, upon the request of PMDA, to perform the assigned tasks.

(1)JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Proofread and edit English translations of review reports (for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and regenerative medical products) and guidance documents, and other English documents produced by PMDA.
  2. Give appropriate advice on any English-related inquiries consulted by PMDA staff members.

(2)QUALIFICATIONS

- Essential Qualifications
 Applicants must:

  • Have been born and/or raised in an English-speaking country, and use English as his/her first language.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university.
  • Have good Japanese communication skills.
  • Have abilities to perform the activities stated in "1. Job Descriptions".
 

- Preferred Qualifications
Experience of writing, proofreading, and/or editing documents regarding medical and/or pharmaceutical sciences may be advantageous.

(4)TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Job status:
 

Freelance (no employment relationship with PMDA)

Payment:

3,000 yen/hour as the advisory fee
* Transportation fee will be provided according to PMDA's regulations.

Period of registration:

The registration will become effective once signed and remain valid until the end of the fiscal year the advisor is registered (March 31, 2014). The registration may be yearly renewed from the next fiscal year onwards, depending on the future work volume and the performance of the advisor.

(7)SELECTION PROCESS

 Applicants who have been shortlisted through a preliminary screening (paper screening) will be called for a final interview.
 Only the best qualified applicants will be registered at PMDA as native English advisors.

(8)OTHER POINTS OF ATTENTION

  • Due to the nature of the tasks assigned by PMDA, registered native English advisors are required to maintain confidentiality of the information acquired during the course of performing the assigned tasks.
  • When tasks are assigned to a native English advisor by the PMDA staff on an ad-hoc or pre-arranged basis, the advisor needs to come to the PMDA office to perform the tasks assigned. Payment will be made to the advisor based on his/her actual work hours at PMDA.
  • Tasks are not necessarily assigned on a regular basis and no assignment might be made during the period of registration.
